WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT WORKING WITH SQUARESPACE?
I love how easy it is. I used to work with Wordpress, but I found it pointlessly complicated even after years of using it. Squarespace is simple. Not only is it easy for me to use, but it's also easy for my clients to use and maintain. They don't have to waste time installing plugins or tweaking code, they can simply use the drag and drop features that Squarespace provides.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT ASSISTING OTHERS IN BECOMING A FREELANCER?
I love making their journey easier and giving them a higher chance of success. I can remember struggling so much in my first year as a freelancer, and wishing someone had told me I could take certain shortcuts and use certain tools to make me freelance journey simpler and more enjoyable. That's why I try to be that person for all the new freelancers I teach. I absolutely love helping them see that freelancing doesn't have to be as tough or scary as it may seem.
YOUR BLOG IS HELD IN HIGH REGARD. DO YOU HAVE ANY TIPS ON FINDING THE RIGHT CONTENT FOR YOUR AUDIENCE?
The best way to make sure you're writing the right content for your audience is to ask them what they need. My favorite way to do that is through surveys! In my surveys, I list the topics I think my audience would enjoy and then I ask them to choose the ones they want me to write about the most. I also ask if they're up for hopping on a fifteen-minute phone call so I can pick their brain and see what else they're struggling with.Talking to your audience and getting to know their fears, struggles and dreams is the best way to form content they need (and will love).
YOU MENTION ON YOUR WEBSITE THAT GETTING GUIDANCE IS KEY WHEN BECOMING A FREELANCER. HOW LONG INTO BECOMING A FREELANCER DID THIS BECOME APPARENT?
I didn't hire a coach, take courses, or read blogs about freelancing until I was two years into becoming a freelancer, and I seriously struggled for those two years. I'm ashamed to even tell you how much profit I made during those two years because it was abysmal, and I put it down to a lack of direction and mentorship. Once I started learning from other freelancers who had been where I was and started implementing the things I had learned, my business began to grow rapidly. I realized that getting guidance from other freelancers was the only way I could speed up my business growth.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING PART OF THE CIRCLE?
I love the perks, such as prolonged Squarespace trials. The Circle makes life SO much easier for Squarespace designers and developers!
YOU HAVE A BIG FEMALE FOLLOWING, WHY DO YOU THINK THIS IS?
I think it just comes down to aesthetics. When I first started blogging, my blog and designs were very girly because my target market was feminine brands, so I mainly attracted women. As my business has grown, my designs and my website have become less girly but I've maintained a lot of the audience I gained when I first started my business. It just shows how powerful design is!
DO YOU THINK SQUARESPACE WILL GROW TO BE AS POPULAR IN THE UK AS IT IS ACROSS THE POND?
I hope so! I would love to see more UK businesses using Squarespace.
